Someone asked about my painting style recently... I think of it as “painting ugly”, which to me, means unpolished or rough. When viewed up close, the painting does not look like the object being painted. It’s a jumble of colour and brush strokes. Not every little detail is painted but only the necessary elements. I try to get the values in and then leave it alone. Only when viewed from a feet feet away does it look as intended.
