I started this painting last week before a "derecho" came raging through our area. Sadly, due to the storm's tornado-force winds, a number of these trees are now gone and this forest looks entirely different.
After the storm, a group of hard-working neighbours came together and worked tirelessly for hours to clear the road of fallen trees and huge branches. It was wonderful to be part of this community, labouring together through the heat and thick mosquitoes to bring some of the chaos under control.
I'm glad to have captured this scene before the destruction. The Calm, 18 x 24 inches, oil/canvas.
