The Story Behind the Painting
Afterglow came from one of those quiet evenings when the sun has gone down, but the sky hasn't let go of its colour. Warm pinks, oranges and soft purples lingered in the clouds and reflected across the calm water.
It is the kind of evening I love at the lake, when everything becomes quieter and there is nothing to do but sit, listen to the loons and take it all in.
That sense of stillness is what I wanted to hold onto in Afterglow. The colour brings energy to the painting, while the calm water brings a feeling of peace.
A painting can hold onto a moment that might otherwise pass quickly. Living with an original Canadian landscape painting allows you to return to that feeling again and again, even when you are far from the lake.
