And the Day Slipped Away
I was out paddling one day when I noticed a beautiful stretch of pine-covered shoreline ahead. My first thought was, that would be a wonderful place to camp.
There was something about that particular stretch of shoreline that made me want to slow down and stay awhile. I could imagine pulling the kayak up, stepping onto the shore, and walking through the soft carpet of pine needles under the trees.
It reminded me why I love spending time on the water.
There is a wonderful feeling that comes with exploring a lake without a schedule. You paddle for a while, stop to look around, notice something you might otherwise have missed and keep going. The fresh smell of pine trees, the quiet shoreline, and the feeling that there is always another little place to discover. No rush. Just enjoying the moment.
That feeling became the inspiration for my new Canadian landscape painting, And the Day Slipped Away.
The title came from those days when you lose track of time because you are completely absorbed in where you are. You aren't thinking about what comes next. You are simply enjoying the water, the trees, and the quiet.
That is what I hope this painting brings to someone who lives with it. A reminder of those unhurried days on the lake and the simple pleasure of being surrounded by the Canadian landscape.
