The Story Behind the Painting
There are moments in the landscape when the light seems to sweep across everything in its path, transforming the trees, clouds and water for just a few minutes. Sweeping Light was inspired by that feeling of brilliant sunshine breaking through the trees and filling the landscape with colour and movement.
At 12 x 12 inches, this small original oil painting has lots of energy. Colourful clouds move across the sky while the sunlight catches the trees and spills across the calm water below. Reflections add another layer of colour, while the textured paint gives the surface a sense of movement and depth.
I wanted to keep the painting lively and expressive, allowing the brushwork and layers of oil paint to be visible. The result is a landscape that feels full of light, atmosphere and energy… a small painting that can bring a strong sense of the Canadian outdoors into a room.
