Bringing the Water to Life

There's a stage in every painting where it starts to feel less like a collection of brushstrokes and more like a place.
In this timelapse, I'm working on the water, adding the reflections and soft ripples that help create the calm atmosphere I'm always trying to capture. It's one of my favourite parts of the process because the smallest changes can completely change the mood of a painting.
Of course, this is only one step along the way. The painting is still evolving, and there are plenty of decisions left to make before it's finished. That's one of the things I love about oil painting. It encourages patience and reminds me that every layer builds on the last.
